Meridian Community College, after splitting a pair of games Friday, rebounded and won an extra-inning thriller over the host team to claim the championship of the Pensacola (Fla.) Junior College Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament.
MCC beat Parkland (Ill.) College 8-0 early Saturday to get a rematch with host Pensacola, and the Lady Eagles came through with a 5-4 win in nine innings.
The Lady Eagles won the toss in the title game and were the home team, and it paid off when Kenya Wilson led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off home run to win it.
MCC had 12 hits in the game, but just the one solo homer from Wilson.
Dreka Shumpert was a perfect 4-for-4 to lead MCC in the championship game, while Stephanie Dixon went 3-for-4 with a double.
Amy Adcox was 2-for-4 with a double, and she was also the winning pitcher, upping her record to 10-2 on the season. Adcox scattered eight hits in the complete-game effort.
In Saturday's opener, MCC beat Parkland for the second straight day by an identical 8-0 score.
After Adcox no-hit Parkland Friday, MCC's Ryan Reid scattered six hits to earn the shutout win Saturday and improve her mark to 5-5.
Wilson and Dixon were both 2-for-3 with a double in the contest, while MCC also got a 2-for-2 day from former West Lauderdale standout Robin Holland.
The Lady Eagles, who are now 15-7 on the season, return to action Thursday with a doubleheader at Wallace-Hanceville.
MCC also has a makeup matchup with East Mississippi Community College scheduled for Friday at Northeast Park.
