COG endorses new state flag design

Grammy Award nominees and six-time Dove Award winners The Martins will be at Bonita Lakes Mall today to sign autographs.
The Christian musicians will be at the Bible Bookstore, next to Sears, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. prior to a 7 p.m. concert at Meridian's 15th Avenue Baptist Church.
A brother-sisters trio of gospel music harmonizers, The Martins are made up Joyce Martin McCollough, Jonathan Martin and Judy Martin Hess. Growing up poor in rural Arkansas, the three often practiced singing together, and released their debut album in 1994 on Chapel Records.
Their releases include "Wherever You Are," "Light of the World" and "Windows."

Lauren Herrington will serve as a Senate page to State Sen. Videt Carmichael, D-Meridian, March 26-30.
Herrington is a 10th grade student at Lamar School. She is the treasurer of her class, has competed on the cross-country team and is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church, where she is active in her youth group and sings in the sanctuary and youth choirs.
Pages perform various duties for the senators and also have the opportunity to observe the Legislature at work. She is the daughter of Wayne and Charlotte Herrington of Meridian.
Charlotte Bryan recently received the "Red Rose Award" from Xi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. The award is given each year to a person in the community who has made contributions to education.
She has been teaching for many years at Poplar Springs Elementary School. She is a National Board Certification Teacher and a participant in the Mississippi World-Class Teacher Program. She was Teacher of the Year at Poplar Springs Elementary School for 1999-2000.
Ernie Brown of Little Rock has been inducted into the prestigious Order of the Golden Key by East Central Community College's Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. He was also selected runner-up for the Most Distinguished Student Award. Brown is an ECCC sophomore.
The Mississippi State Alumni Association has presented a distinguished service award to Jerry Fulton of Yazoo City. Fulton is a native of Meridian and a 1971 industrial technology graduate. He is agency and office manager for the Yazoo County Farm Bureau.
The award recognizes outstanding service during 2000 to Fulton's local alumni chapter and alma mater.
SCOOBA All adult basic education and GED students working toward their GED diplomas at East Mississippi Community College must successfully complete the GED test by November 2001.
The testing service in Washington, D.C., will release new tests to replace the current edition at the end of 2001. Those students who do not complete the test by November will be required to start over.
