Boy Scouts Benefit slated for this weekend at Briarwood

The 2001 Rush/Boy Scouts Benefit golf tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday at Briarwood Country Club.
This is the 14th year of a tournament that is arguably the biggest fund-raiser all year for the Choctaw Area Council of Scouting.
Evans said the scouts hope to raise $20,000 from the annual event.
Following the first round on Saturday, the teams will be flighted for the Sunday round. There are prizes given for the first seven places in each flight. A $500 gift certificate from Golf Shop goes to the first-place team, second place gets $300, third place receives $150, fourth gets $100.
A seven-shot maximum from the leader improvement rule applies to Sunday's score except for the championship and first flight.
An entry fee of $200 per team includes lunch on Saturday. The tournament format is a four-ball. There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., Saturday and Sunday.
Rush Foundation Hospital is the tournament's main sponsor, but Evans said the event wouldn't be what it is without some 50 other sponsors that will be contributing by sponsoring individual holes at Briarwood.
The Choctaw Area Scouts encompass Meridian and the surrounding six-county area. For more information on the tournament, or how you can get involved in scouting or the support of the Boy Scouts of America, please contact the local BSA office at 693-6757.
