Easter festivities set for area
The public is invited to attend these Easter festivities:
Tuesday Riley Ridge Runners will be holding an Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Bonnet contest at 7:30 a.m. at Luby's Cafeteria in Bonita Lakes Mall. Prizes will be awarded for most eggs found, golden egg, along with favorite and most creative bonnet for male and female.

April 14 Collinsville Park area of Lake Okatibbee will be the setting of one of the largest Easter egg hunts in Mississippi. The egg hunt is free to the public. Money raised through activities such as pictures with the Easter Bunny, children's games, food and drink sales will be donated to the Children's Miracle Network. Activities start at 9 a.m. with the hunt at noon. For information call, Paul Bucurel at 693-2381.
April 14 Central Baptist Church is hosting an Easter egg hunt from 2-4 p.m. for children toddlers through the 6th grade. There will be different egg hunts for different ages as well as other games and activities. Each child needs to bring four eggs and their basket.

St. Patrick School holds rummage sale
St. Patrick School's Parent School Association will host an annual rummage sale today from 7 a.m. to noon, at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Highway 19 North. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the school. For more information, call 482-6044.
March of Dimes to sponsor fish fry
A fish fry and car wash sponsored by the March of Dimes, "Kandice's Team," will be held today at Calvary Baptist Church.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Catfish plates prepared by cooks at the Back 40 restaurant will be sold for $6. For more information, call 693-5431.

MHS Band Boosters to meet
The Meridian High School Band Boosters Association will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the MHS Cafeteria.
The Annual Band Banquet will be one of the main topics discussed. Officers for the 2001-02 school year will be elected. A major revision in Booster financing will be discussed and decided on for the 2001-02 school year. Membership for the Band Boosters is $5 annually and is open to the public. Parents of ninth grade band students at Kate Griffin and Northwest Junior Highs are encouraged to attend.

Jaycees holding membership drive
The Jaycees will hold a season membership drive Monday at 5:30 p.m., at DT Grinders to recruit people who want to improve Meridian.

Kemper Chamber of Commerce luncheon set
The Kemper County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual business/industrial luncheon on April 12 at 12:15 p.m. at the Farmers' Market on Highway 16 East behind McDade Oil. The Business and Industry of the Year will be announced. Lunch will be prepared by the Kemper County Civic League. Newton County Relay for Life' set
The Newton County Relay For Life is set for June 1 at the East Central Community College campus in Decatur.
Relay for Life is a major fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society.

Dumpster Dogs' Society to meet
The Lauderdale County Dumpster Dog Humane Society will hold clean up and planning days today and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone who would like to help with the clean up or donate their building skills should attend. The society will also hold its next meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the first floor of the Court House Annex. Way of The Cross set for April 13
The 4th Annual Way of the Cross/Way of Peace walk will take place April 13. Thirteen different churches have a stop where a reading of the scripture is done and then a presentation of the passage is enacted, songs are sung and prayers are said. The walk will take about three hours.

DAV mobile office to visit Meridian
Detailed explanations of the benefits available to disabled veterans and their families will be presented at an upcoming Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service Office visit.
Like all services provided by the non-profit DAV, there will be no charge for on-site counseling and claim-filing assistance, which will be hosted by Meridian Chapter No. 56. It will be presented April 13 at the Bonita Lakes Mall food court entrance, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Veterans and members of their families need not be DAV or DAV Auxiliary members to take advantage of this free service. Please bring your Department of Veterans Affairs claim number, Social Security number and any other pertinent documentation to the session.
Crisis Pregnancy Center planned
A Crisis Pregnancy Center is being established for Lauderdale County. The organization will meet at Northpointe Presbyterian Church on April 16, at 7 p.m. Counselors, doctors and volunteers willing to donate time should call the church at 482-7744 or Craig Ziemba at 679-8146.
MLT Spring Variety Sale set
It's that time again! The Meridian Little Theatre Guild Spring Variety Sale will be held April 20-21.
Now is the time to clean out your closets, garages and attics. Please bring your tax-deductible items to the Meridian Little Theatre, Highway 39 North, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Large donations can be picked up. Items needed include clothes, shoes, jewelry, toys, linens, games, books, pictures, dishes, appliances, furniture and bric-a-brac.
