After fielding many complaints, city officials decided to give citizens a crash course in Waste Management's rules about tree limb pick-ups.
The issue arose Wednesday at Mayor John Robert Smith's press conference.
At Tuesday night's meeting of the Meridian City Council, company officials agreed to collect limbs up to 4 inches in diameter during the spring to help clear away some piles of yard debris still awaiting pick-up.
Mayor Smith, who asked them to bend the rules, said the change should make clearing tree limbs easier for residents.
Smith also said Public Works Department employees will work with citizens 65 or older on an individual basis to pick up piles of debris not in compliance.
Hopkins reminded property owners that limbs on yards are not the city's responsibility.
