Crestwood Elementary School has been recommended as a model school where advanced learning can be demonstrated in a nationwide program.
Crestwood received the recommendation after a recent visit by 15 educators associated with the Co-Nect program. Co-Nect, one of the New American School Models, is a learning program that sets benchmarks and helps schools utilize technology to improve students' performance.
The Co-Nect goal is to help all students acquire the skills and knowledge they need for a life of successful learning and work, a spokesman said. The school is in its second year with the program.
A "Tech Team" composed of Susan Hester's Explore students conducted the tours for Co-Nect visitors.
The school was evaluated on five benchmarks, including:
shared accountability for results;
project-based teaching and learning;
comprehensive assessment for continuous improvement;
team-based school organization; and
sensible use of technology.
The Crestwood "Tech Team" will present its PowerPoint presentation to more than 600 educators at the National Co-Nect Convention in Canada later this year.
Crestwood is the only school in the Meridian Public School District that has adopted Co-Nect.
