Meridian fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a trailer in Meridian Wednesday.
The fire occurred at 1947 1/2 Old Marion Road about 10:50 a.m.
Meridian Fire Chief Bunky Partridge said the trailer was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Live electrical wires had fallen around the trailer, posing safety hazards for the firefighters. Smoke from the fire could be seen as far away as downtown.
The trailer is owned by Daniel Johnson and rented by Patricia Donwell. No one was home at the time of the fire,
which was reported by a passerby, Partridge said.
Partridge said fires in older model trailers are harder to fight because of the materials used in construction. Newer trailers are built with mostly fire-retardant materials, he said.
