Winners of four scholarships worth $500 each were announced Monday night during the All Scholastic Sports Team banquet.
The All Scholastic Sports Team is a weekly feature of WTOK-TV. Students from across the station's viewing area are invited to apply to be on the team.
Scholastic achievement ranks above athletic ability, and one only has to be a member of a varsity sport to qualify. The committee selects 15 high school seniors. They are featured each week as the newest member of the All Scholastic team.
Another committee from outside WTOK is formed to select the scholarship winners. This committee meets with all 15 in an informal setting and makes its selections, Hall said.
The scholarship winners were Jill Hicks of Lamar School, Erin Knight of the Mississippi School of Mathematics and Science, Phillip Garrett of Northeast Lauderdale High School and Sharkeshia Jordan of Wayne County High School.
Other members of the All Scholastic team were Andy Thomas of Clarkdale, Craig Martin of Lake High School, Ellen Heimann of Meridian High School, Adrienne Howse of the Mississippi School of Mathematics and Science, Timothy Fieber of Neshoba Central, Scott Therrien of Newton High School, Rachel Webb of Philadelphia High School, Justin Doggett of Quitman High School, John Coker of Southeast Lauderdale High School, Cassie Franks of Southern Choctaw High School and Gabrielle Bonner of Wayne Academy.
Meridian Community College baseball coach Russ McNickle was the featured speaker.
