NAACP hosts political debate
The Meridian/Lauderdale County Branch of the NAACP will host the second in a series of Candidates Forums tonight at Clark's Funeral Home, 621 30th Ave. The debate will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Candidates for mayor and city council seats have been invited to appear. This will be an opportunity for interested citizens to ask questions and evaluate candidates' positions. The public is invited to attend.
U.S. Postal Service presents workshop
The U.S. Postal Service QWL-EI team will present a workshop today at the downtown Meridian Post Office, 2100 Ninth St.
The workshop, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., will explain the duties of rural carriers and allow interested participants to sign up to take the RCA test. Sample questions to improve performance on the test will also be provided. For information, call 693-2581.
McClure benefit set for Friday
A benefit barbecue for Kim McClure, a 31-year-old single parent recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease, will be held Friday from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. McClure has no medical insurance and is unable to work.
The benefit will be held at 1201 28th Ave., next to Queen City Nursing Center. Hamburger or hot dog plates are $5 each. Delivery is available for orders of five plates or more.

Habitat holds open house
Habitat for Humanity officials will dedicate their 34th house in Lauderdale County Friday at 4 p.m. The build was sponsored by The Riley Foundation and Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, and was built in partnership with the Beverly Burrage Family.
U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss., and Mayor John Robert Smith will attend the dedication and the open house. The event will be held at 4103 Ninth St. in Meridian. The public is invited to attend.
Hamasa Shriners to hold dance
The Parade Marshal Unit of Hamasa Shrine Temple will sponsor a dance Saturday honoring the memory of the late Raymond Davis, who was a parade marshal for many years.
The dance will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available from any member of the Parade Marshal Unit, the Hamasa Temple Recorders office or Peavey's Melody Music. For information, call 483-3274.
Memorial Day Services held at Courthouse
Memorial Day Services will be held May 28 at 10 a.m. at the Lauderdale County Courthouse in downtown Meridian.
MCCSA offers home buyer education classes
Multi County Community Service Agency will offer home buyer classes May 29 (Sessions 1-2) and May 31 (Sessions 3-4).
The classes will be from 4:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at MCCSA's Neville Hall, 2900 St. Paul St. Participants will learn about budgeting, credit reports, home buying, home maintenance, mortgage loans, insurance and taxes.

Fish fry benefits Relay for Life
Trustmark National Bank will hold a fish fry May 31 to benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Plates are $6 and include fried fish, french fries, hush puppies, cole slaw, dessert and a drink.

Hickory Day set for June 9

MLT announces youth workshops
Meridian Little Theater's Summer Youth Workshop will be held June 25-29. The one-week session, four classes a day, will cover drama, dance, music and art.
