Judy Ainsworth is finally doing what was in the back of her mind during 28 years as an educator. Her contract as principal of Calvary Christian School began June 15.
Approached by the School Guidance Committee to take the position, Ainsworth said Calvary Christian was the type of school of which she always wanted to be a part. The private school is run by Calvary Baptist Church.
She keeps a Bible on her desk. Since taking the principal's position she has had it opened to Psalm 112, verse 7b, "His heart is fixed trusting in the Lord."
Students receive a Bible lesson at the school every day and once a week they have chapel. Scripture is used with instruction as well as discipline.
Calvary Christian School is a K-7 school with about 100 students. Increasing enrollment and upgrading the appearance of the school are at the top of Ainsworth's agenda.
A native of Meridian, Ainsworth taught grades K-7 in the Meridian Public School system. She was teaching sixth-grade math and science at Magnolia Middle School before taking her new position. Carol Davidson retired as the school's principal this year after 40 years in education.
Ainsworth and her husband, Wayne, have three children and two grandchildren. She is music director of Marion United Methodist Church.
