Kelly Jones crowned Miss Alabama 2001

Former Meridian resident Kelly Jones has been named Miss Alabama 2001.
The daughter of Jerry and Cynthia Jones, Jones was a double-preliminary winner in talent and swimsuit. For her talent presentation, she performed "First Ballade in G Minor" on piano.
Jones' platform is Boys and Girls Clubs: Encouraging youth to become Peer Role Models (PRM). She developed the PRM Program piloted in the Jefferson County School System Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama, as well as coordinated a musical presentation for the 100th anniversary of Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama. She also is active with the Birmingham Community Ministry for Girls.
Her honors include winner of the John Ireland Musical Competition and a finalist in the LaGrange Young Artists Competition.
A graduate of Lamar High School, Jones received a bachelor of music degree in piano performance from Samford University. She is currently a graduate student in music education at the University of Alabama. Her career ambition is to own and manage a multi-faceted music school.
The Miss Alabama Pageant is a preliminary to the Miss America Pageant.
