The Mississippi Association of Coaches has announced its 2001 all-state baseball teams for each of the Mississippi High School Activities Association's five classifications with 18 area players being selected for that honor.
Making the Class 3A team from the 3A state champion West Lauderdale Knights are seniors Todd Doolittle and Brad McKee. Doolittle has signed with Meridian Community College. Also on the 3A team is senior Mario Thomas of Forest. Class 3A only had enough nominations for one team while the other four classes had a first and second team picked.
Leading the Class 1A first team are three members of the 1A state runner-up Lake Hornets. Seniors Craig Martin and Jake Nester and sophomore Eric Watkins, along with Noxapater senior Nijel Young were among the first team picks. Martin will play for Mississippi College next year, while Nester has signed with East Central Community College.
Second team picks in 1A are ECCC signee Alex Shepard of Sebastopol, Bryan Williamson and Eric Gunn of Lake, Matthew Warren of Nanih Waiya, and Ronnie Pettit of Edinburg.
On the Class 5A first team is senior Sanduan Dubose of Meridian. Dubose has also inked with MCC.
On the Class 2A first team are senior Chris Moffett, an MCC signee, from Clarkdale and senior Ty Culpepper, an ECCC signee, of Philadelphia. Senior William Mars, another ECCC signee, from Philadelphia was a second team choice.
Making the Class 4A first team is junior Kentay Eiland of Louisville. On the second team is Louisville's Anthony Stanford, a sophomore.
