Lauderdale County officials arrested a man Friday for pelting an inmate worker with a full beer can thrown from his car window.
Maj. Doris Callahan of the Lauderdale County Detention Facility said the inmate was working in Rusty Bonner's Mississippi Department of Transportation crew about noon on Highway 145 South. Bonner is an escort officer at the jail.
They arrested Junior Norwood, 23, of 308 West South St. in Kosciusko. He was charged with simple assault, and bond was set at $500.
Callahan said the inmate was treated at the jail for a severe bruise.
Norwood and the inmate don't know each other, Callahan said, and there is no apparent connection between them.
Callahan declined to release the injured inmate's name.
