MONTGOMERY, Ala. Brandy Brown has received an academic gold medal and is a Dean's List scholar at Alabama State University. She was also inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and she is a member of the W.E.B. DuBoise Honors Program.
As a Golden Ambassador, she is part of a group of academic scholars who serve as official hosts and hostesses of the university. She is attending school on a four-year academic scholarship from the university.
Brown, a 2000 graduate of Meridian High School, is the daughter of Zina and Stan Brown of Meridian.
STARKVILLE Pam Compton of Meridian received her doctorate in school administration in May from Mississippi State University.
Compton is the director of federal programs and special education for the Quitman School District. She previously served as special education director in the Meridian Public School District.
Compton and her husband, Charles, live in the Clarkdale Community. She is the daughter of the late Bea and Edwin Duett.
Drew Harper, a student of Southeast Middle School, has been named a United States Award Winner in science.
Awards are presented by the United States Achievement Academy based on the recommendation of a school teacher or director. Harper was nominated for the award by his teacher, Robbie Workman.
Harper is the son of Steve and Jackie Harper and the grandson of Audrey and Edgar Harper, all of Meridian.
HATTIESBURG Two Meridian residents were among 79 people who completed the Leadership Studies program at the University of Southern Mississippi on June 17 through 22.
Participating students included John Williams Jr., 17, of Raymond High School, son of John and Lora Williams, and Jonathan Woodall, 13, of Lamar Middle School, son of Charlie and Debbie Woodall.
The Leadership Studies program, a one-week residential program run by the Center for Gifted Studies, is designed for students in sixth through 11th grades. School officials recommend students who have a desire to develop and enhance their leadership ability.
DeKALB Jeremy Jarvis of DeKalb will receive $2,000 from the Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program.
Jarvis is a graduate of East Mississippi Community College in Scooba.
JACKSON Joseph Kyle Fulcher of Jackson has received his law degree from the Mississippi College School of Law.
Fulcher, who graduated magna cum laude, received his undergraduate degree from Mississippi College.
Fulcher is the son of Bobby and Glenda Fulcher of Quitman and the husband of Tina Stockman Fulcher.
Benny J. Duett of Meridian completed a nine-day trip to London to show graduate students what it is like to manage a business in Europe.
Duett is pursuing a master's degree in business administration at Mississippi State University.
Before departure, students developed a business plan for preparing a selected U.S. industry to enter the European market. In England, students met with three U.S. companies competing in the global market.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Emily C. Kyles has been admitted into the graduate school of history at Purdue University.
A graduate of Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., Kyles will take a teaching assistant position with a tuition waiver this fall. At Purdue, she will pursue a master's and doctorate in history with a concentration in U.S. military history and American women's history.
Kyles is the daughter of Bill and Brenda Kyles of Meridian.
DECATUR Gloria Johnson has been named head librarian at East Central Community College. She began work July 1.
Johnson served as assistant librarian at the college since 1978. She succeeds Ann Burkes, who recently retired.
Johnson has a bachelor's degree in English from Mississippi Valley State and a master's degree in library science from the University of Mississippi. She is a resident of the Cooperville Community, south of Morton.
