Meridian police have released the name of a man charged with armed robbery in a Saturday afternoon incident at The Package Store on 45th Avenue.
Lt. Wade Johnson of the Meridian Police Department said charges were filed against Ricardo Brewster, 19, of 2116 13th Ave., Saturday night.
The robbery occurred at about 3:30 p.m. when Brewster allegedly walked into the store, demanded money and fled on foot. Johnson said detectives approached the man minutes after the robbery occurred. Brewster reportedly fled, and police chased him on foot.
Johnson said Brewster was apprehended nine minutes after the robbery occurred. Police recovered the money and a handgun that may have been used in the robbery, he said.
Johnson said Brewster is the only person believed to have been involved. He remained at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility this morning on a $10,000 bond and could appear before a judge today.
