Meridian and Lauderdale County firefighters will travel to New York in November to personally deliver proceeds from today's barbecue fund-raiser to families of firefighters killed in the World Trade Center attack.
Partridge got busy, advertising today's barbecue benefit and asking for help from area residents and businesses.
The Riley Foundation donated $5,000 for the cause and Atlas Roofing bought $3,500 in tickets to feed firefighters, police and emergency workers in Lauderdale County, he said. Other businesses chipped in, like Budget Printing, which donated ticket printing, and M PRINTS, which printed shirts at low cost for firefighters to sell.
The money will be handed directly to the victims' families in New York, Partridge said.
Barbecue plates include pork, potato salad and baked beans. Donors can also buy the specially printed shirts and caps with the letters FDNY printed on the front.
Partridge said anyone who hasn't tasted firefighter cooking has missed out.
