Elaine Roberts Chapman of Butler, Ala., announces the engagement of her daughter, Heather Elaine, to Edward Smith Cowen Jr., son of Edward and Myrna Cowen of Elba, Ala. The bride-elect is also the daughter of the late Richard Thomas Chapman.
The wedding will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Demopolis, Ala.
She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glover Roberts of Butler; Vernell Gibson of Demopolis and the late Warren E. Gibson.
Miss Chapman is a graduate of Choctaw County High School and will receive a bachelor's degree in human services, with a minor in elementary education, in December from Troy State University.
She was active in Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Sigma Alpha Sigma and a majorette in the "Sound of the South" marching band.
The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of Jimmie Lou Cowen and the late J.E. Cowen and Mr. and Mrs. Myron E. Thomas of Elba.
He is a graduate of Elba High School and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Auburn University. He will receive his master's in business administration in December from Troy State University. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Family and friends are invited to attend.
