Bishop to guide regional sports coverage

Paul Barrett, regional manager of community newspaper holdings inc.'s East Mississippi Group, today named newspaper veteran Austin Bishop to guide development of enhanced and expanded sports coverage at the group's four newspapers, including The Meridian Star.
Barrett said Bishop, a 25-year newspaper veteran, was named regional sports director of cnhi's East Mississippi Group. Bishop will oversee day-to-day operations of The Star's sports department and work closely with sports departments of the Laurel Leader-Call, The Newton Record and The Wayne County News to expand sports coverage.
Bishop will be based in Meridian at The Star.
Bishop's experience includes stints as sports editor of six Mississippi newspapers, including The Star, Leader-Call, The Natchez Democrat, The Yazoo Herald, The Clarke County Tribune and The Neshoba Democrat. Bishop's work first appeared in The Star in the fall of 1977 when he was a sports correspondent while attending junior college. He also worked for four years as a sports writer at the Vicksburg Evening Post.
He has also served in other capacities at The Star, including regional editor, city editor and assistant managing editor.
For the past four years Bishop has been self-employed, working for newspapers throughout Mississippi, while maintaining his home in Meridian.
He is married to the former Barbara Lee and they have two children, Ryan Satcher and Bradley Bishop.
