Giving something back to her new hometown was Valerie Alvarez's plan when she came up with the idea to host a hairstyle and fashion show to benefit Merrehope and the Meridian Restorations Foundation.
Alvarez moved to Meridian to open her salon four years ago.
Last year's event raised nearly $1,000 for Merrehope, and Alvarez hopes to double that Monday. The hairstyle and fashion show will be held at Merrehope starting at 7 p.m.
Not only will the show raise money for Merrehope, Alvarez said, it will also raise awareness about the property and its continued restoration.
Along with Le-Maxim Salon, participating businesses include The Liberty Shop, Harry Mayer, Loeb's, Panache Shoes and the Bonnie Jean Shop.
A $10 donation will be requested at the door. There will be a door prize, and hors d'oeuvres and wine will be served.
This fund-raising event is appreciated by the Meridian Restorations Foundation, said board member and past president Betty Lou Jones.
Jones said last year's high utility bills put a lot of pressure on the foundation's finances.
