Class 4A power Jackson Lanier handed the Meridian Wildcats a 75-68 loss in Jackson on Tuesday night.
The loss drops Meridian to 5-2 on the season. Lanier improves to 9-2.
Monta Ellis fired in a game high 38 points to pace Lanier. Meridian was led by Keno Leflore with 18 points. Fred Cole had 11.
Lanier used a 24-17 second quarter to build a 36-26 halftime lead. Meridian closed the gap to six, 51-45, by the end of the third quarter.
Meridian travels to Wayne County on Friday in Waynesboro.

Lanier 40
The Meridian Lady Wildcats smashed Lanier 68-40 on Tuesday night. The win is the fifth straight for the Lady Wildcats. They are now 5-2 on the season heading into Friday's game at Wayne County.
Valencia Hairston tossed in a game high 23 points and Stephanie Mosley chipped in 20.
Lanier got 14 points from Dominic Crawford with 14 points.
Meridian took a 16-7 lead after one quarter. It was 28-16 at the half. The Lady Wildcats put the game away with a 16-point third quarter.
Leake Academy Boys 83
Lamar 56
Tristan Howell's debut as the Lamar School boys basketball coach started on a down note as Leake Academy handed the Raiders an 83-56 loss on Tuesday night.
It was the season opener for the Raiders under Howell, a Mississippi State graduate.
Drew Wolverton led Leake with 20 points and Joshua Chamblee had 17.
Lamar received a game high 23 points from Joe Bryant and Jace Hill added 14. David Haggard hit for 11.
Leake took a 21-9 first quarter lead. They then added 24 points in the second quarter to go up 45-21. It was 69-42 after three quarters. Lamar scored 24 in the final quarter.

Lamar Girls 23
Leake Academy whipped Lamar 57-23 in girls basketball action on Tuesday.
Leake improves to 7-1 while Lamar falls to 2-5.
Kristin Caldwell led Leake with 19 points and Lauren Gross had 11. Keely Phillips scored seven to pace Lamar.
The Lady Raiders will take on Jackson Prep on Thursday and will host Newton Academy on Saturday.
Heritage Boys 63
Central 27
Heritage went to 2-1 on the season with a 63-27 romp past Central Academy.
Gray Flora had 11 points to lead Heritage. Adam Henley scored 10 to lead Central.
West Jones Boys 65
Quitman 63
Joseph Dobbs sank two free throws with 27 seconds left in regulation to lift the Mustangs to victory.
Rico Keyes had a critical rebound for West Jones on the defensive end. Keyes was unable to convert a free throw in the final seconds but Antonio Moffett's offensive rebound sealed the Mustang victory.
For West Jones (6-1), Andrea Galiazzo had 15 points, while Antonio Moffett and Adam Sumrall each scored 14 points.
For Quitman (1-5), Jason Pierson scored 14 points. "Quitman has played a very tough schedule," Winship said. "This is really a quality win for our ballclub. We played a sluggish first half on offense but played with great effort throughout the entire game."

For the second time this season, the Lady Mustangs escaped with a narrow victory over the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Mustangs defeated the Lady Panthers 46-42 Nov. 1 to win the Lady Mustang Invitational.
West Jones improved to 7-0 with the win. Of those victories, six have come at home. Quitman dropped to 2-6 with the defeat.
Sharon Pendarvis led the Lady Mustangs with 14 points, while Tiffany Moffett scored 13 points. Mashana Bonner led Quitman with 11 points, while Taquilla Mack scored 10 points.
