M*A*S*H Bash' blood drive today
The Annual "M*A*S*H Bash" Blood Drive is set for noon-7 p.m. today in the Temple Theater Ballroom.
The blood drive is important because it will take place just before the long New Year's weekend a time during which there often is a critical blood shortage because of holiday car accidents.
Parks &Recreation begins classes
Registration for the winter session classes offered by the Meridian Parks &Recreation Department begin Jan. 2. The first classes start the week of Jan. 21. For a complete listing of offerings, check out the Web site at www.meridianms.org or call Mary at 485-1805 to request a brochure.
NAMI to conduct education classes
The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Mississippi will offer free education classes beginning in January for family members of people with schizophrenia, manic depression, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety disorder. The 12-class course offers illness information, medication review, communication and coping skills, self-care/support and services. For details, or to register, call (800) 357-0388.
Date set for Martin
Luther King Jr. parade
The Meridian Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration Committee and the city of Meridian will present the third annual Martin Luther King Parade and Celebration on Jan. 21.
The event is free and open to the public.
The theme is "Reclaiming the Dream."
The parade line up will begin at 10 a.m. at 1019 25th Ave., the Meridian Public School District Office. The parade is scheduled to start at noon.
The parade will follow the same route as the Christmas parade, ending at Dumont Plaza for a commemoration program.
Jackson State University's marching band, "The Sonic Boom of the South," is expected to participate. The Meridian High School band and other bands in the surrounding area also have been invited.
