East Mississippi Community College head coach Steve Hull has said all along that he wanted his team to put itself in a position to pick up some big wins late in the season. Monday night at Scooba, Hull's Lions got one of those wins. Despite trailing by seven points at halftime, East Mississippi's men rallied to knock off Northwest Mississippi Community College 79-77 in North Division junior college basketball action.
For most of the year the word "press" has been a dirty one for the Lady Raiders of Lamar School. But Lamar broke the Heidelberg Academy press time-after-time on Monday night to score the most points they have all season in a 48-37 win over the visiting Lady Rebels. The Lamar boys also picked up a win, as Jared McKee scored 20 points in a 60-40 victory.

If Florida head football coach Steve Spurrier, Arizona State head coach Bruce Snyder, the LSU offensive staff and several North Alabama assistant coaches converged on one place in the same day, one might think a coaches convention was in town. Not so. TUSCALOOSA, Ala. It wasn't a grin on Dondi Flemister's face. It was a full-fledged smile. An ear-to-ear sea of white that he didn't try to control. But then, neither did his Rebel teammates, the team everybody had written off, the team sure to finish below all its brethren in the SEC. The team that had just broken a three-game losing streak by shocking 15th-ranked Alabama 78-77 here at Coleman Coliseum Wednesday night.
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. Toine Murphy hit all four of his free throws in the final 33 seconds and six Governors finished in double figures as Austin Peay held off Mississippi State 103-97 Wednesday. MSU (10-6) had pulled within 97-95 with 41 seconds left on Johnny Walker's basket that capped a 15-7 run. But Murphy, who was 7-of-7 from the line, sank his free throws to seal the victory.

Emily Howard
Clarkdale's Emily Howard is known for her pitching ability, both in slow-pitch and fast-pitch. Howard, though, is quickly gaining a real liking for the game of soccer.
She plays all three sports for the Lady Bulldogs. Last October, she helped Clarkdale to the South State 2A Championship in slow-pitch softball and a berth in the State 2A finals against Hatley.
Yet she also feels that softball is still her best sport. She is looking forward to fast-pitch.
