Life Line Screening to be at Aldersgate
Life Line Screening will be at Aldersgate Retirement Community in Meridian on Tuesday.
Ultrasound testing for stroke, abdominal aneurysms and blockage in leg arteries which can lead to heart disease will be performed. An osteoporosis screening also will be offered.
The screenings take about 10 minutes and are $40 each. You must preregister. This screening is limited to the first 63 people who register.

Way of Cross planning meeting this week

of Commerce hosts prayer breakfast
The Kemper County Chamber of Commerce will host a Prayer Breakfast on Thursday at the Farmers Market. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast at 7.

Make-A-Wish to hold volunteer meeting
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi will hold its monthly Meridian Volunteer Luncheon Thursday.

Family Matters Conference and Youth Rally
Both events begin at 6 p.m.
Speakers for the parent conference will be Jim Cook, motivational speaker and retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, and Judge Eric Andell, senior advisor to U.S. Education Secretary Rod Paige.
Cook also will be the Youth Rally speaker. There will also be a band, door prizes and a free Family Matters T-shirt (while supplies last) for participants who bring two canned goods.
McRae's begins school benefit
McRae's officials invite local schools and school organizations to participate in the store's annual "School Benefit Sale." This year's event will take place 6 a.m.-10 a.m. March 2. Newton Hospital to
sponsor talent showcase
Newton Regional Hospital will sponsor a talent showcase at 2 p.m. March 9 to raise money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life 2002. The show will be in Huff Auditorium at East Central Community College in Decatur.
The entry fee is $25. Entry forms may be picked up at the hospital or obtained by calling Michael Miller at 683-0325 or 635-2509.
Head Start begins registration
Registration for the Head Start 2002-2003 school year is going on now for centers in Lauderdale, Neshoba and Scott counties.
Interested parents can register children ages 3 and 4 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Registration continues until 6 p.m. at the After Kare Centers (East End Center in Meridian, Exhibit Hall in Scott County and the Forest Community Center in Scott County).
The following items must be submitted at registration: Updated immunization card, birth certificate, Social Security card, income verification, Medicaid recipients and a medical checkup record.

Postal workshop to be held
The U.S. Postal Service has reopened the registration for candidates to take the rural carrier associates exam.
The Meridian area QWL-EI group is presenting a free workshop for the public. Sessions will be 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Main Post Office in Meridian, 2100 Ninth St.
Test-taking tips, sample test questions and the duties and responsibilities of a rural carrier associate will be given out.
