The Clarkdale Bulldogs picked up their first win of the 2002 campaign by knocking off the 0-2 Southeast Lauderdale Tigers 7-6 in the Lauderdale County Baseball Tournamnet on Saturday afternoon at John Moss Field.
The Southeast Tigers dropped a 12-2 decision to the 1-1 Northeast Lauderdale Trojans in the morning game at John Moss Field.
Acting Clarkdale coach Bubba Hawthorne was happy that his team came back to grab its first win.
Southeast Lauderdale head coach Reggie Richardson says his team must overcome its youthfulness.
Richardson was not happy with the way his first outing as a head coach went, but he thinks things will change with game experience.
The Tigers batted first, and got one run in the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs were unable to score, and the score stood 1-0 after the first inning.
In the top of the second, SEL got another run to go up 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs countered by breaking out the bats in the bottom of the second inning.
Brandon Mabry had a two-run double tying the game at 2-2. Later in the inning, Jake Gray scored on a passed ball by the Tiger catcher giving the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.
Micheal Davis singled to center field to score Mabry from third to take a 4-2 lead going into the third.
Southeast Lauderdale's Jay Butler hit an RBI single to the outfield to cut the lead to 4-3. Larry Fairchild reached on an error, and later scored to tie the game at 4-4.
Clarkdale's Davis reached on a single, then Jeffrey Stokes drove him in to take a 5-4 lead. Stokes later scored to make the score 6-4.
The fifth inning was scoreless. The Tigers then made another charge early in the sixth inning tying the game at six runs apiece, after Clay McRee scored Tyler Overby on an error and a fielders choice.
In the final inning, the Bulldogs were faced with a game-winning situation in their final at bat.
The lead-off batter got on base with a walk, the next batter also walked, to put runners on first and second. Justin Hinson flied out for the first out of the inning. Next up for the Bulldogs was Chris Reeves. Reeves struck out for the second out of the inning.
The next batter, was pinch-hitter Kirk Singley. Singley walked to load the bases for the Bulldog hero Brian May. May ripped a single up the middle to finalize the decision 7-6.

The Northeast Lauderdale Trojans knocked off the cross-county rival Southeast Lauderdale Tigers in a brutal 12-2 decision, Saturday morning in the LAuderdale County BAseball Tournament.
The Trojans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning of play.
Southeast was held score less in the first inning.
Northeast came into the second inning with scoring intentions again, putting another run on the board.
Southeast Lauderdale's Clay McCree hit a solo home run in the second inning to put the Tigers on the board. NEL led 4-1 after two complete innings.
In the third inning, the Trojans added two more runs to the board, to pace themselves to a 6-1 lead over the Tigers.
Southeast Lauderdale got its last run in the fifith inning, when Tyler Harper crossed the plate for the Tigers.
