West Jones, Brandon, Natchez take meet titles

The Class 4A and 5A District Track Finals were held Thursday at Meridian Community College. West Jones claimed the boys title by one point over Quitman, and by 28 points in girls 4A competition, while Natchez took the girls crown in 5A, and Brandon took the boys championship.
In girls 4A, Quitman finished second, Northeast Lauderdale was third, followed by Magee High School in fourth, Mendenhall was fifth, and Florence finished in sixth place.
In boys 4A, Quitman was second, Mendenhall finished third, followed by NEL in fourth, Florence in fifth, Northeast Jones was sixth, and Magee finished seventh.
In girls 5A, Brandon was second, followed by Meridian in third, and Wayne County finished fourth.
In boys 5A, Meridian took second, followed by Natchez in third, and Wayne County took fourth place.
Janice Davis led Natchez to a 22 point win over Brandon High School. Davis won the 100,200,and 400 Meter Dashes in fine fashion.
Davis holds the state record in the 100 Meter Dash, and she is looking to set the 200 and 400 meter records this year.
If anyone believes in Davis, its Meridian head coach Barbara Brown.
The Quitman Panthers surrendered a 56-38 lead, after the field events, to fall to NE Jones 105-104.
Meridian got a good run from Peter Davidson that clinched a second place position for the Cats.
The top four finishers in the finals will advance to the Regional Meet that will be held April 27th at 10 am. The Class 5A and 3A meets will be held in Meridian, while the 4A schools will travel to Raymond.
