PHILADELPHIA Services for Samantha Thornton will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at McClain-Hays Chapel with the Rev. David Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Shepard Cemetery in Preston with McClain-Hays Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Thornton, 17, of Carthage, died Friday, April 19, 2002, on Highway 486 in Philadelphia. She was a teacher with the Head Start program.
Survivors include her husband Matthew Thornton of Carthage; mother, Ludy Turnage of Collinsville; father, William Cumberland of Collinsville; a sister, Rachel Williams of Carthage; a brother, William Stevens of Philadelphia; and grandmother, Johnnie Virginia Booker of Collinsville.
Visitation will be today between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the chapel.
NORMAN JAMES CRAIN

YORK, Ala. Services for Norman James Crain will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Cuba Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernie Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Memorial Gardens with Bumpers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Crain, 83, of Cuba, Ala., died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He was a carpenter with the paper mill.
Survivors include his wife, Louise B. Crain of Cuba; a son, Norman W. Crain of Meadville; a daughter, Margaret Beard of Cantonment, Fla.; two sisters, Eloise Doster of Kingsland, Ark., and Jean Jones of Fordyce, Ark.; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Cuba Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 65, Cuba, AL 36907.
Visitation will be Monday between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. at the church.

UNION Services for Cora Mae Leach will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Fanguy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Stephens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Leach, 82, of Conehatta, died Friday, April 19, 2002, in Ridgeland.
She was a member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and a member of OES Chapter 168. Mrs. Leach spent her life helping others.
Survivors include her two daughters, Janice Houf of Mendenhall and Sue Collins of Starkville; four sisters, Verneida Simmons, Edna Earle Beeland and Jean Hedrick, all of Newton, and Marlene Waltman of Lake; five grandchildren, Susan Westbrook of Sturgis, Renee O'Bannon of Arkansas, Pam Thrash of Madison, Carla Lurk of Waynesboro and Billy Joe Leach of Conehatta; 11 great grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren, Raymond Houf of Brandon, Robert Houf of Madison, Cindy Skipworth of Terry, Phillip Collins of Starkville, Nancy Wolf of Brandon, Linda Collins of Louisiana, Susan Pollard of Alabama, Bobby Collins; and a number of step great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the funeral home and 30 minutes prior to the services at the church.
Pallbearers will be Mike Waltman, Bill Waltman, Steve Hedrick, Sonny Beeland, Robert Munn and Shane Breland.

UNION Services for Alma "Gertrude" White Smith will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Little Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny Chaney and Roger Laird officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Stephens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith, 86, of Little Rock, died Saturday, April 20, in Union.
Survivors include her brother Ronnie White of Philadelphia; three sisters, Eunice McCorkle of Union, Mary Terry of Meridian, and Ruth Rowzee of Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Delmer E. "Doc" Smith and her parents, Melvin E. and Martha Howlman White.
Visitation will be today between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home; and 30 minutes prior to services in the church.
