A Lauderdale County man was killed Sunday night when his sport utility vehicle ran off the road and struck a culvert.
Maj. Ward Calhoun, a spokesman with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, said that Joshua Q. Womack, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Old Country Club Drive West near Highway 39 North.
The one-car accident happened around 10:30 p.m.
Calhoun said that Womack was driving east on Old Country Club in his 1999 GMC Yukon when the sport utility vehicle left the road and struck a ditch. Calhoun said that Womack was not wearing a seat belt.
The Northeast Volunteer Fire Department and Metro Ambulance both responded to the accident. Calhoun said the accident is currently under investigation by the sheriff's department.
