Sargent: Proud and humbled by tribute

Dr. Jayne A. Burrows Sargent was the first recipient of the award that bears her name.
The superintendent of the Jackson Public School District, and former superintendent of Meridian schools, Sargent plans to retire at the end of this school year after more than 35 years in education.
She received the award in 1996 from the Mississippi State University Department of Educational Leadership. She gave the closing remarks at the award ceremony at MSU-Meridian Campus on Friday.
She said she is honored and humbled by the other women who have received the award named in her honor.

2001: Jan Miller, Clarkdale Attendance Center principal; Dr. Eloise Richardson, Board for Community and Junior Colleges adult education program specialist; Dr. Evelyn White, Jackson State University dean of education.
