Britney Peek and Ryan Whitaker were united in marriage on Saturday, March 9, 2002 in a oceanside ceremony in Orange Beach, Ala. The 4 p.m. ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. John L. Stevens of Apopka, Fla.
Parents of the couple are Beth Barham and Scotty Peek, both of Meridian, Kimberly Whitaker and Mike Whitaker of Quitman.
Grandparents of the bride are O.C. and Ruth Barham, Mildred Peek and the late Edwin Rush Peek, all of Meridian.
Grandparents of the bridegroom are Elder and Carolyn Bailey, Billy and Catherine Whitaker and the late Virgie Whitaker, all of Quitman.
Nuptial music was provided by Blaire Barham, sister of the bride, and Yancy Whitaker, brother of the bridegroom.
Given in marriage by her grandfather and father, the bride wore a gown enhanced with a spaghetti strapped bodice, adorned with lightly beaded embroidery. The chiffon skirt met the bodice with intricate beadwork along the empire waistline. The dress was finished with simple ivy embroidery at the bottom of the chiffon skirt and chapel-length train.
Brooke Peek of Memphis, Tenn., attended her sister as maid of honor. Bridesmaid was Blaire Barham of Meridian, sister of the bride.
The father of the bridegroom served as best man. Groomsman was Yancy Whitaker, brother of the bridegroom. Blake Barham, Jakeb Bailey, Densiley Bailey and Noah Bailey, cousins of the bridegroom, carried a rose filled garland.
Following the beachside ceremony, the wedding party walked down the Phoenix V pier and stood on the beach. The couple was honored with a beach soiree in the reception room of Phoenix V.
The couple departed on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Guests, holding sparklers, formed two lines for the couple to work through. After a honeymoon in St. Thomas, San Juan and St. Croix, the couple resides in Petal.
