The aroma of pancakes and sausage will fill the Temple ballroom on Tuesday when members of the Downtown Optimist Club fire-up their griddles for the 55th Annual Pancake Jubilee.
Beginning at 6 a.m., people looking for a hot breakfast can fill up on the all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage for $4 a plate. Milk, coffee and cokes will also be served.
Proceeds from the event, which continues through the day until 7 p.m., will benefit local youth programs.
The club uses money it raises to sponsor major, high-profile events. The biggest is the Junior Golf Program which runs throughout the month of June.
The club also sponsors a scholarship at Meridian Community College for an underprivileged student, donates money to the Boy Scouts and supports several area youth baseball programs.
For the last two years, members of the club have shown up in the early morning hours at Meridian's Ray Stadium to cook for the Relay for Life participants. This year's Relay for Life is set for June 7 and 8.
