The 2002 Summer league season is off and running. Openings for individuals and teams are still available through this week in all leagues. After this week no teams will be allowed to enter leagues, but individuals may continue to join to fill available positions. If you are interested in joining any league contact Dixie Bowl at 483-2283 or come by the lanes the night the league you are interested in bowls. All Summer leagues begin warm-up at 6:50 p.m. and begin bowling for score at 7 p.m. Standings for all leagues will be published beginning next week when all leagues are finalized.
The 55th Annual MSBA State Tournament has now completed it fourth week of competition. Look for current top standings in each event as well as a recap of this weekend's action elsewhere in the sports section of today's edition. You may also find current standings online at www.bowling100.com. The online standings will list each bowler entered in All-Events and will include any updates following the verification of scores. The tournament will conclude June 9.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, Dixie Bowl will play host to the bowling competition in the 2002 State Games of Mississippi. The entry fee for this event is $16 per person. Each bowler will compete against bowlers in their category (ABC, WIBC, YABA) and only against bowlers in their average classification. If you are interested in entering or need further information contact Dixie Bowl at the number listed above or Bernard Hoy at 482-2207.
Once the State Games are ended, Dixie Bowl will again be the host of a statewide event as the 37th Annual YABA State Tournament comes to town for three weekends beginning June 29. If your child is entered you may contact Leon Fike or Candace Blackmon to find out the dates and times they will be bowling.
Finally wrapping up some unfinished business, congratulations go out to the Ball &Chain league champions "Whatever" composed of Yolanda Edmonds, Tim Edmonds, Mary Edmonds and Albert Edmonds, who won the final roll-off of the season to take home the league championship. That officially ends the 2001-2001 Fall/Winter season. For those of you not bowling in the summer, see you in August!
