Dr. and Mrs. Edwin M. Keith Jr. of Starkville announce the engagement of their daughter, Sarah Kathryn, to Tobie John Smith, son of the Rev. Judith E. Smith and Dr. Howard A. Smith II, both of Nashville, Tenn.
The wedding will be Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham.
Miss Keith is the granddaughter of Betty Box Deen and Robert B. Deen Jr., both of Meridian, and Eloise M. Keith of Starkville and the late Edwin M. Keith.
The bride-elect is a 1996 graduate of Starkville High School and a 2000 cum laude graduate of Davidson College, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Miss Keith is employed as Domestic Violence Crisis Line coordinator at the YWCA of Birmingham, Ala.
Mr. Smith is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney A. Anderson of Walla Walla, Wash., and the late Rev. and Mrs. Howard A. Smith of Grand Rapids, Mich.
The bridegroom-elect is a 1993 graduate of the University School of Nashville and a 1997 graduate of Birmingham Southern College. He is a 2002 graduate of Cumberland School of Law, where he was on the Dean's List.
Mr. Smith is employed as an investigator at the Legal Aid Society of Metro Birmingham.
A reception will be held at The Summit Club in Birmingham following the ceremony.
