Lady Bobcats down in numbers

ELLISVILLE The Jones Junior College Lady Bobcats are down in numbers slightly heading into the 2002 soccer season.
JCJC's roster consists of 12 freshmen to go with just two sophomores. Last year's Lady Bobcats went 4-6-1, but advanced to the playoffs. This year, Easley points to leadership from sophs Mary Sorrells, a midfielder from West Jones, and Amanda Smith, a midfielder/defender from South Jones.
In-district freshmen include Ashley Hughes, a forward/midfielder, and Lisa Merten, a defender, both from Laurel; Christie Hathorn, a midfielder/forward from West Jones; and midfielder/fullback Jessica Blackledge, fullback Melissa Graham, forward/midfielder Hannah Johnston, forward/midfielder Brittney Smith, fullback/defender Leslie Stevens, and defender Hannah Watts, all of Northeast Jones.
Out-of-district freshmen will be Shauna Craig, a forward, and Mary Browder, a goalkeeper, both from George County, and Rossie Waldrop, a goalkeeper from
Madison-Ridgeland Academy.
There are five women's teams competing in the South Division, including JCJC, Co-Lin, Gulf Coast, Pearl River, and newcomer Meridian. The top two teams make the playoffs.
JCJC opens the season Wednesday at home at 2 p.m. vs. Co-Lin.
