Clarkdale wins league opener

Clarkdale won its division soccer opener on Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 romp past visiting Philadelphia at Bulldog Stadium.
Clarkdale improves to 5-1 overall.
Jake Gray and David Prewitt each scored two goals and passed out an assist to lead the Bulldogs. Jonathan Pickett, Justin Culpepper and Tyler Swanner also scored one goal each for the Bulldogs.
This week, Clarkdale will travel to Newton County on Tuesday. On Thursday, they have re-scheduled a game with rival West Lauderdale for Clarkdale at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
This is a rematch of the South State 1A-3A title game from last season.

Richland 1
The Newton County Lady Cougars picked up a win on Saturday afternoon beating Richland 6-1
The win improves the Lady Cougars to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in division play.
Mandy McGrevey led Newton County with three goals. Megan Munn, Jessica Jackson and Julia Tucker all scored one each for the Lady Cougars.
Clarkdale boys 7
Quitman 0
The Clarkdale boys soccer team got four goals from Jake Gray on Thursday night to whip Quitman 7-0.
The Bulldogs improve to 4-1 on the season.
Gray scored four goals and had two assists. William Clinton scored two goals and Justin Culpepper had one.
Culpepper led the way in assists with three while Gray had his pair.
Clarkdale was set to play Philadelphia on Friday night.
