Perhaps the theme for the Meridian Swimming Association team should be "Catch me if you can."
The Meridian Swim team scored a commanding 654 points on the first day of competition Friday at the Meridian Invitational Short Course/Long Course Swim Meet at Highland Park.
In second place was the Natchez Swim Association and the Delta Aquatic Club, both with 208 points.
All the events of the first day were short course events (100 meters or shorter) and swam by swimmers who were 10 or under.
Vogt said that many of the younger swimmers are in their first ever competition.
Swimmers could be in a maximum of five events and score a maximum of 45 points.
Three Meridian Swimmers won every event they entered.
Savanna Boyd scored big in the 6-and-under category as she claimed first place in the 25 meter breast stroke (30.95), 25 meter freestyle (23.25), 25 meter butterfly (31.90), 50 meter freestyle (51.76), and the 100 meter Individual Medley (2:19.2.)
Kaitlen Collins also added 45 points in the 8-and-under female age group.
Collins placed first place in the 25 meter back stroke (21.47), 25 meter free style (19.99), 25 meter butterfly (25.14), 25 meter breast stroke (27.010), and the 100 meter Individual Medley (1:55.00.)
The third perfect score of the day was by Semmes Partridge in the 10-year-old female age group.
Partridge placed first place in the 50 meter breaststroke ( 47.56), 50 meter backstroke (40.72), 50 meter free style (34.85), 100 meter Individual Medley (1:32.91), and the 100 meter Butterfly (1:38.43.)
While the top success of the day belonged to the females, Vogt said she was also pleased with some successes by some male swimmers too.
