Deborah Bell, 44, of East Old Wire Road died Monday from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said authorities are searching for three black men who fled the scene.
The sheriff's department's advanced accident investigation team was called to the intersection of Russell-Mt. Gilead Road and KOA Campground Road, where the accident happened at about 3:40 p.m.
According to Calhoun, Bell was in the passenger seat of a white, 1992 Dodge van, which was driven by Renee Walker.
Calhoun said the van, traveling south, and a 1990 Honda Acura, traveling east, collided; Calhoun said the Honda apparently ran a stop sign at the intersection. Bell was ejected from the van.
Calhoun said the Acura was occupied by four black men. He said one man stayed on the scene and the other three fled by foot.
Calhoun also had no information about Walker, the driver of the van. Calhoun said Walker and seven children aged 1-11 who were riding in the van were taken to local emergency rooms.
