It may be football season around the Lauderdale County area, but golf is in the air this weekend. The Northwood Country Club is playing host to the 2003 Bill Cass Senior Four-Ball Tournament and after the first day of action there is a definite jam at the top of the leaderboard.
The teams of Randy Pool and Sidney Bowers, Robert Espey and Willie Frazier, and Jimmy Hoppen and Mike Herrington are in a three-way tie for the lead after day one.
Executive Director of the tournament Margo Coleman was very pleased with the opening day of the tournament.
Two other teams are sitting right behind the leaders to try and take the lead going into the second round.
Doug Parker and Jud Grace are only two strokes back from the leaders, plus Jerry Stubblefield and Ken Hougue are also two shots back in second place.
The tournament will continue today with the first teams set to tee off at 8 a.m.
The tournament will be hosting players from all over the state of Mississippi and Coleman believes that Northwood is a great place for the tournament to be held.
There are 41 teams entered in the event and the tournament is broken down into two different groups. The first group are senior players between the ages of 50-59 and the second group of players are categorized at the super seniors. The super senior group are ages 60 and over and make up the rest of the field.
