The Lauderdale County Welcome Center on Interstate 20 closed for a few hours on Thursday due to hazardous conditions.
Clarence Butler, director of the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency, said no injuries were reported after a truck driver hauling chemicals in barrels pulled over to check his cargo after smelling fumes.
Butler said the trucker had left with the chemicals from Michigan sometime Wednesday. He said more than one type of chemical was on the truck, one of which was chloroprene, a chemical used in industry.
The Welcome Center was closed from about 3:30 p.m. to about 7 p.m.
