Supervisors OK temporary loan for garbage fund

The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors has approved a temporary loan of $250,000 from the general fund to the Lauderdale County Garbage fund.
The vote came Monday during a regular meeting of the board.
Rex Hiatt, county administrator, said the money needs to be transferred because the garbage fund is short and county governments are not allowed to have fund deficits at the close of a fiscal year.
Hiatt said the millage rate for garbage fees was reduced from 4 mills to 1.9 mills last year in anticipation of good collections from user fees.
The board also approved the purchase of a new fire truck for the Toomsuba Volunteer Fire Department in the amount of $164,000 from Pierce Manufacturing Company.
