East Central Community College has a new scholarship designed to attract students to the health care profession.
The college's board of trustees approved the Newton County Health Care Scholarship at its September meeting. The scholarship was established in August by Newton Community Healthcare Inc. in partnership with the Grow Your Own program.
The partnership received grant funding to establish a scholarship to benefit Newton County students as well as the community. The scholarship is designed to attract students to the health care profession and have them remain in Newton County to work after graduation.
The scholarship will provide two students with two full years, or four semesters, of tuition to attend ECCC. Recipients must be enrolled in the associate degree nursing or licensed practical nursing programs.
Potential recipients must reside in Newton County and maintain at least a 3.0 average during the four semesters at ECCC.
The college's scholarship committee will select recipients.
