Newton County Cougars nip Forest Bearcats

A 34-yard field goal by Taylor Nichols put Newton County ahead to stay in the third quarter as the Cougars edged Forest 14-13 on Friday night.
Nichols finished the night with two field goals. His first was a 40-yarder in the second quarter that cut Forest's lead to 13-11.
Forest took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when quarterback Michael Townsend found Keith Brown on a 21-yard touchdown pass. Newton County tied the score 7-7 when Duke Hudnell scored on a three-yard touchdown run, but Forest took the lead later in the quarter on a 25-yard pass from Townsend to Brown. NCHS improved to 2-4, while Forest fell to 3-2-1.
Enterprise 13
Bay Springs 6
Adam Simpson rushed for 124 yards and Ike McKelvain and Corey Irby each ran for touchdowns as Enterprise downed Bay Springs 13-6 on Friday.
Enterprise, now 4-2, never trailed in the game. Irby put Enterprise up 7-0 in the first quarter on a one-yard touchdown run. Bay Springs' Phillip Sims responded later in the quarter with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Bernard Gammage, but the extra point failed and Enterprise stayed up 7-6.
Enterprise padded its lead in the second quarter on McKelvain's four-yard touchdown run, giving Enterprise a 13-6 lead.
Bay Springs is now 4-2.
Winston Academy 48
Kemper Academy 0
Winston Academy racked up 378 yards on the ground and picked up 16 first downs to blow past Kemper Academy 48-0.
The Patriots held the Rams to just 10 rushing yards and 15 passing yards and three first downs in the win.
Trenton Cockrell got Winston on the board in the first quarter with a nine-yard touchdown run. Paul McMillan hit the PAT to make the score 7-0.
The Patriots added another touchdown in the first as Pat Peterson scored on a three-yard run to make the score 13-0.
