The Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs combined two home runs from Alyssa Bye and one from her sister Ashley with timely defense to take a 12-2 win over Enterprise in Wednesday afternoon slow-pitch softball action.
Clarkdale also honored its seniors after the game, as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 18-6 overall. The team had already captured its 11th straight division title prior to the game.
Clarkdale had little trouble scoring runs to open the game. Clarkdale notched four quick runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 edge over Enterprise. Megan Potate led the inning off with a single and scored moments later on an RBI triple by Savannah Satcher. The second run of the game crossed the plate on a single by Alyssa Bye.
Enterprise caused the third run of the frame to score due to a throwing error in the infield, and Lindsay Dawkins knocked in the fourth run on a hard single up the middle.
Enterprise cut into the lead in the second inning when Laura Speed hit a towering shot over the left-field wall to make it 4-1.
Clarkdale quickly answered the homer by Speed with a pair of runs in its half of the second to take a 6-1 advantage. Alyssa Bye hit a line drive to deep center for a two-run home run.
Enterprise would not go away, as EHS added a tough run in the top of the third to once again cut into Clarkdale's lead. Kacey Jimmerson led off the inning with a single and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to left to make the score 6-2.
Enterprise finished the game with five hits and made five errors on defense which came at a bad time.
Ashley Bye smashed a three-run homer in the fourth for an 8-2 lead. Clarkdale ended the game with three runs in the fifth to run-rule Enterprise. Kimbo Seale led the fifth off with a single and later scored on another Enterprise error.
The final two runs of the evening scored on a two-run home run by Alyssa Bye to give Clarkdale the win.
Clarkdale finishes the 2003 regular season today with a 2 p.m. game on the road at Northeast Lauderdale, and Enterprise wraps up the year at home against Bay Springs at 7 tonight. Both teams have also made the playoffs that start this weekend. Clarkdale will be playing host to Lumberton on Saturday at 2 p.m., and Enterprise will be on the road at St. John.
