Cross country will be in full swing this weekend in Lauderdale County as Northeast Lauderdale hosts the 2003 Division 5-2A and 5-4A meets at Northeast.
Northeast Lauderdale is not the only team that will be in action this weekend, as the Meridian High Wildcats will be on the road at its divisional meet. Meridian will travel to Clinton to take part in the Division 3-5A meet at Choctaw Trails.
In the meet at Northeast Lauderdale, there will be a great collection of teams competing in the big event. On the 2A side of the event there are three teams scheduled to participate. The teams include Newton, Clarkdale and Philadelphia.
The Division 5-4A side of the field will be featuring some of the better teams in the state of Mississippi.
The teams that will be competing in the Division 5-4A meet include Northeast Lauderdale, Wayne County, Laurel, Quitman and Petal. Cross country may not be familiar by many in the area, but it take endurance to compete in such a meet.
The girl's will be competing in the 4,000 meter and the boys will be running the 5,000 meter. Meridian will not have the luxury of running at home, but the Wildcats will be running in the Division 3-5A meet in Clinton. Teams that will be running in the meet at Clinton include Meridian, Clinton, Oak Grove and many others that were not yet determined due to registration forms not yet obtained.
The Northeast Lauderdale event will get under way at 9 a.m. with the 4A meet to follow the conclusion of the 2A event. Meridian will begin competition in Clinton at 10 a.m.
