The Meridian Public School Board announced two grants Thursday totaling more than $270,000 from The Phil Hardin Foundation and The Riley Foundation. The money will fund five pre-kindergarten teachers and five teacher's assistants.
The pre-kindergarten classes will be at Frank Berry Courts, Eastern Gardens and Western Gardens.
Dr. Tom Wacaster of the Phil Hardin Foundation, Dr. William Riley of The Riley Foundation and Becky Lewis-Farley, program director for The Riley Foundation, presented the school board with the grants at a specially called board meeting.
Representatives of the Meridian Housing Authority, Meridian Public Schools, the Phil Hardin Foundation and The Riley Foundation said they will work together to make the one-year program a success.
