RUSSELLVILLE – An accident that occurred at 12:37 p.m. Thursday on Highway 24 at the Washington Street intersection is still under investigation, according to Assistant Police Chief Robert Pace.
Though not all witness accounts have been collected, it is known that Donald Haddock, 2910 Hwy 59, Spruce Pine, was driving a 1995 blue Dodge Neon when a collision occurred with John Ward Davis, 182 Clover Lane, Russellville, who was driving a 1991 red Toyota Tacoma.
"The only statement I can make at this time is that someone in this accident made a misjudgment," said Pace.
Fire officials at the scene said they believed that Haddock was trying to cross Highway 24 from Washington Street in an attempt turn east when he was struck by Davis's vehicle, who was already traveling east on Highway 24. Haddock's vehicle was hit on the front of the passenger's side. Haddock was taken by the Pleasant Bay Ambulance Service to Russellville Hospital. According to Elzie Malone, owner of the ambulance service, the injuries appeared minor, and non-life-threatening.
Police Lieutentant Johnny McMickin worked the accident, along with members of the Russellville Fire Department.
