Red Bay native Daphne Murrell is a Christian author and musical artist. She will be speaking at Russellville First Baptist Church on Sunday, July 15 at 6 p.m.
In February, Murrell's first novel, Autumn Sunset, was released. It is a story about the youngest daughter of a Southern Baptist preacher who is searching for fulfillment and happiness after moving back in with her parents in Alabama.
The title of the book is also the title of a song written by Murrell, as well as the title of a self-written album containing 14 original songs.
The book is the first in a series of four. Titles of the other books to come are Spring Dawn, Winter Midnight and Summer Sunrise.
"I wrote my first book in second grade," she said. "I used to write all through high school, passing around chapters to my friends. I worked on a novel during my college years."
After a lifetime of writing for leisure and church performances, Murrell decided to write Autumn Sunset in 2004. She contacted Tate Publishing and Enterprises, who offered her a contract only three weeks after her pitching the book to them.
Murrell and her husband have three children, Melody, Josh and Charis.
Murrell's book and CDs can be found on her website, www.dapnemurrell.com.
