A Winston County woman was arrested yesterday for passing bad checks in Franklin County, ending nearly a yearlong search by law enforcement officials.
Rebecca Avery, 36, of 2415 Fairview Circle Apt. H3 in Haleyville, was arrested for writing seven bad checks which were turned into the Worthless Check Unit, Check Unit Coordinator Sommer Barnes said.
"Avery was located when she went to the Marion County Jail to post bond for someone else," Barnes said. "When she got there, she was instructed to have a seat."
Barnes said that she and Investigator Terry Zills transported Avery from Marion County to the Franklin County Jail, where she was booked and allowed to pay the checks, which totaled approximately $1,000.
"Avery was on our Most Wanted list for a while," Barnes said. "We have been looking for her for approximately nine months."
The Franklin County Worthless Check Unit works under the authority of the Franklin County District Attorney's Office.
