The Tharptown junior varsity team fell to the visiting Phillips Black Bears 20-14 in double-overtime Monday night. The Wildcats (2-2) led 6-0 after Trevor Hallmark busted loose for a 74-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Phillips evened the score at the end of the first half when Donny Wilson fumbled but recovered the ball in the end zone. With the score tied 6-6 at the end of regulation, the game went overtime. Despite untimely penalties that pushed the Wildcats back, Tharptown scored after Jacob Parker eluded the Phillips rush and found Mackinley Flannagin for a 16-yard touchdown pass. Parker rolled to his right and scored for the 2-point conversion to put Tharptown ahead 14-8. After Phillips answered, the Wildcats couldn't find the end zone and the Black Bears scored again to win 20-14. The Tharptown JV plays next at Red Bay on Oct. 22.
