The Russellville Fire Department has been promoting fire safety at area businesses and industry by teaching employees how to use fire extinguishers properly.
Fire Marshall Bobby Malone said the department spent Tuesday at Pilgrim's Pride, and one day last week at Terrace Manor Nursing Home teaching employees how to deal with fire.
"We instructed 80 people today here at Pilgrim's Pride as part of their safety training," Malone said.
The day of training consisted of a live burn and safety talk.
"Our goal is life safety," Malone said. "We teach them to use the fire extinguisher, and to call 911 before they start trying to fight the fire. We want to be in route as soon as possible."
The participants at Pilgrim's Pride included management, staff and supervisors.
The Russellville Fire Department focuses heavily on community education to help prevent fires before they start.
"We never want to see a home or business destroyed by fire so we work to education our community to prevent fires all together," Fire Chief Joe Mansell said.
The department also offers home safety inspections and smoke detector installations.
