Lady Tigers Wallace State-bound

THARPTOWN — The Red Bay Lady Tigers are Wallace Sate-bound after defeating the Sumiton Christian Lady Eagles 67-33 Thursday night.

The game was over by halftime, as the Lady Eagles never managed to outscore the point total the Lady Tigers point had just 12 minutes into the game.

“We are playing some good basketball right now,” Red Bay head coach Donnie Roberts said. “The main thing is our young players are getting some experience.”

The score could have been much worse for Sumiton Christian, but Coach Roberts took the opportunity to play his second and third string players.

The Lady Tigers’ defense was sharp in the performance, creating 22 turnovers in the first half alone. Red Bay had no trouble driving the lane and shot out to a 24-5 lead at the end of one.

The Lady Tigers’ defense proved too much for the Lady Eagles to handle, and Reds Bay took a 48-20 advantage into the half.

Sumiton Christian was unable to mount any kind of a comeback late in the game.

The win puts the Red Bay girl’s varsity team into the tournament at Wallace State next week.

“It always feels good to make it down there,” Roberts said. “It’s always a good trip. Our seniors have played at Wallace State the past three years.”

This experience may give Red Bay an edge when they face the rest of the state’s competition.
